After successfully selling their previous business, the founders embarked on an extensive journey across Canada, the USA, Mexico, and the Caribbean. This period wasn't just for leisure; it was a comprehensive "grassroots research" mission for their next venture.
Unparalleled Pickleball Immersion
Throughout their travels, the founders played pickleball at over 80 locations, ranging from a single court in a barn to to 32-court facilities, and in diverse settings like malls, warehouses, cruise ships, and even parking lots. They introduced pickleball to a small Caribbean island via its Ministry of Health and engaged extensively with operators, owners, and staff at every venue. This allowed them to meticulously observe successful strategies, common pitfalls, and effective tips and tricks related to programming, food and beverage, venue layout, court characteristics, and technology. They also forged numerous valuable connections within the pickleball community.
A Natural Progression to Pickleball Entrepreneurship
Both Kelly and Doug are lifelong athletes with extensive experience in organized sports. They discovered pickleball in 2020 and quickly became avid players, volunteers, and instructors. This deep personal involvement, combined with their proven track record in building and selling businesses, naturally led them to seek their next entrepreneurial challenge in the pickleball industry.
